“I’ve learned that a DJ is a HUGE part of any wedding going well and Partybox is the best there is.” -Rylee P. – Bride
As exciting as your future plans are, you are actually embarking on two new adventures. Planning your wedding and enjoying your engagement!! This really should be an incredible experience for both of you and yet most often this whole process seems like a second job. The first question every couple asks when searching for almost anything, but definitely a DJ, is “What’s the price of wedding DJs in Oklahoma” What they really want to know is “What’s the difference between you and their buddy’s friend who’s also a DJ?”
Like all newly engaged couples, they sort of know what they want but are not sure where to start. Or they don’t know what they want but they don’t want what they saw at someone else’s wedding. The DJ will make or break your reception. Yet couples often place the DJ budget low on the priority list. It isn’t that they don’t want a party, it’s just that they have so many decisions to make and nobody shows them photos of dancing and laughing.
Who’s going to create, lead and manage the ceremony and reception timeline?
Do we want to be responsible for all the reception details on the day of?
Who can we trust to help us enjoy our wedding experience today?
iPad DJ – Free to $500+ (0% Guidance 100% DIY)
We have a Spotify playlist and we’re just going to plug in a microphone.
This is actually better than the next option, but it’s not a good solution at all. Technology is amazing, and I use tools like Spotify every day for podcasts, workouts, research, and just to listen. At the beginning, playing a playlist seems like the right money-saving decision. Yet after dinner, guests may not have been informed about what’s going on or what’s to come, and may not get the feeling like dancing is going to happen. Even with ‘auto-mix’ active, the pre-fabbed playlist will not read the crowd or sense when a change needs to be made. Plus, get two aggressive bridesmaids near the tablet and watch out.
Hobby DJ Cost – Free Beer to $1000 (5% Guidance 95% DIY)
Oh I have some speakers and I have DJ’d at some other parties.
We all have these friends, and we’ve all been to one of these parties. It isn’t that they are bad at what they do, it’s just that your wedding isn’t a house party and your guests won’t appreciate wicked feedback and muffled toasts. Or worse, inappropriate song edits, mispronounced names, and every reception photo has that DJ set up in the background. And any savings up-front may cost you the last two hours of your reception when everyone has left early.
Part-Time DJ – $799 to $2200 (40% Guidance 60% DIY)
I’m a _______, but I have a DJ gig on the weekends.
The majority of DJs are in this category. Be cautious. Many couples discover they’re just another “number” to this DJ. These DJs can be wonderful. They’re outgoing and talented people who like being DJs on the side and making some extra money. They work in a company that connects them with engaged couples who’ve gone through the process of filling out an online planner but that’s it. They do what they are told to do. They play the songs you ask for and they will talk on the mic like they have done many times before. The results are mixed, usually a “cookie-cutter” result, and there are no guarantees. I’ve heard many wonderful stories about these DJs, but the negative stories make me cringe. Caveat Emptor
Full Time DJ/MC and Wedding Entertainment Director – $2500 to $4500+ (85% Guidance 15% DIY)
This is my profession, and I guarantee to provide an incredibly successful wedding reception.
Less than one-third of one percent of DJs are in this category. These professionals invest all week meeting with clients and improving their performance skills or updating technology, music and equipment. They invest most of the weeks preparing and performing. Like other professionals, they are active in ongoing education and constantly work to improve their craft. They rehearse, prepare for and prioritize your wedding above most anything else. Your song requests are honored, and every detail is considered beforehand. Their reputation is on the line at each event and they are so confident of their efforts that they offer a money-back guarantee in their agreement. Hiring a full-time wedding DJ is like having an insurance policy on the success of your wedding reception.
