Technology is amazing, and I use tools like Spotify every day for podcasts, workouts, research, and just to listen. At the beginning, playing a playlist seems like the right money-saving decision. Yet after dinner, guests may not have been informed about what’s going on or what’s to come, and may not get the feeling like dancing is going to happen. Even with ‘auto-mix’ active, the pre-fabbed playlist will not read the crowd or sense when a change needs to be made. Plus, get two aggressive bridesmaids near the tablet and watch out.

  Oh I have some speakers and I have DJ’d at some other parties. 

  We all have these friends, and we’ve all been to one of these parties.    The majority of DJs are in this category. Be cautious. Many couples discover they’re just another “number” to this DJ. These DJs can be wonderful. They’re outgoing and talented people who like being DJs on the side and making some extra money. They work in a company that connects them with engaged couples who’ve gone through the process of filling out an online planner but that’s it. They do what they are told to do. They play the songs you ask for and they will talk on the mic like they have done many times before. The results are mixed, usually a “cookie-cutter” result, and there are no guarantees.
